In the sixties, I went to an all girls Catholic boarding school in New York City from first through third grade. It was a difficult time for me. My mother was a working divorced mom who had few options for child care back then. Divorce carried a stigma for both mother and child. Other girls who were sent away to my boarding school were also the children of single parents--widows, widowers, etc. To be away from our parents at such a young age, we felt lonely, lost and homesick.
